GREENUP COUNTY, Ky. — With nearly a 57 percent turn out, election day in Greenup County, Kentucky went smoothly, according Greenup County Clerk, Pat Hieneman.
“The turn out for the election was about 57 percent, I thought perhaps it would go a little higher to 60 percent, but we had almost 57 percent,” Hieneman said. “As busy as we were I anticipated more problems, but seemed to be a very good day. We were extremely busy.
Overall, no major problems occurred during the election.
“We had a lot of calls regarding where people went to vote. We didn’t have any machine problems that I am aware of that would cause any problems,” Hieneman said. “We had one phone line that wouldn’t work out in East Fork, and one of the Sheriff’s deputies had to stay out there until the telephone company arrived and got it repaired very quickly. Our precincts all came in and said they had good days, busy days, but good days. It was just more pleasant than I anticipated.”
Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper, said there were no outbreaks or disturbances, and was pleased with how things went for election day.
“Actually we had a busy day, but nothing as far as typical problems, especially because of the volume of voters that we had turn out,” Cooper said. “As far as trouble, we really did not have any. It was pretty much a typical election, a lot of feelings on both sides, but everybody just did what they were supposed to do. The came out to vote, and got it done, and I was very pleased with how everything went.”
Cooper said he and his deputies were prepared if any problems did arise on election day.
“I had all of my deputies out, and we were just driving by the precincts in the area, and we were ready,” Cooper. “Thank God that we didn’t need them for any kind serious call, and it all went pretty well.”
