SOUTH SHORE, Ky. — The construction of a new clear well project is currently underway in the city of South Shore, Ky. Thomas Environmental Contracting in Greenup, Ky., and Crom out of Gainesville, Fla., have been working for the last two weeks on the project.

Gary Staton, engineer representative on site for Bell Engineering out of Lexington, Ky., said his role is to oversee the clear well project to ensure that the designs are carried out.

“I am here representing the engineers to make sure that the work is done as they designed,” Staton said. “We got a sub in here, and have started the clear well, which is the main part of the project, and they’re pouring the base slab for the clear well. We have a general contractor, which is the local guys, which is Thomas Reed an environmental contractor in Greenup. These guys out there working now are from Crom, they are a national tank company, and they are all over the country, and come in and deal with tanks.”

According to Staton, Oct. 1, 2015, is the date of contract completion.

“These guys think that they will have the clear well done in possibly six weeks. So we are looking for the middle, or the end of September,” Staton said. “This is a new clear well. After the water has been processed and cleaned, it is a storage reservoir that will be pumped out of here into the system. This like a water pump, it’s a clear well in the ground. You got to do something with the fresh water, so that you can send it out to the people. You see, they can treat around the clock, and then store it here, and then take it out as they need it.”

Thomas Reed said he concurs with Staton concerning completion of the project to be some time in the month of September.

“I am general contractor, and the owner of Thomas Environmental Contracting. We are building a new clear well, and everything that is required to hook the new treatment plant to the new clear well,” Reed said.
