An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper has been injured in a crash that occurred as the result of a high speed pursuit over the weekend. Trooper Nick Lewis was pursuing a suspect out Bonser Run Road when the crash happened.
“Trooper Lewis lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a curve and slid over and hit a utility pole and a guardrail,” Lt. Karla Taulbee of the Jackson District of the OSHP said. “The car flipped a couple of times and he ended up in an embankment and a creek.”
Taulbee said an officer helped Lewis out of his vehicle and he was transported to a medical facility where it was discovered he suffered a fractured rib among other injuries.
“The suspect continued on,” Taulbee said. “We were able to identify him and (Portsmouth Municipal Court) Probation (Department) had a probation holder on him. They (Probation Department) were going out to pick him up on the probation holder and some of the troopers backed them up. Probation officers picked him up.”
Taulbee said no charges have been filed as yet, but any charges that are to be filed by the OSHP will go directly to a Scioto County grand jury. Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn has reviewed the case.
