WEST PORTSMOUTH – Troopers with the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Patrol are investigating a one vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred Sunday evening May 22 at approximately 7:38 p.m.

A 2000 Ford F-150, driven by Derek J. Adkins, age 24 of West Portsmouth OH was driving eastbound on County Road 49 .3 miles west of Township Road 450. Mr. Adkins drove off the right side of the roadway overcorrected and drove off the left side of the roadway striking a tree. Mr. Adkins was not wearing his seatbelt.

Mr. Adkins was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center, in Portsmouth Ohio where he succumbed to his injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by personnel of the Portsmouth Post. Further information will be released when available.
