An elderly resident is dead as the result of a fire on Lintz Hollow Road in Lucasville, Thursday morning. According to a relative at the scene, she is 82 year old Betty Jane Stanley. Stanley was identified by her nephew, Richard Salyers, at the scene.
“I was in a motor home camping out there at Greenup (Ky.),” Salyers said as he stood in front of the badly burned residence. “I got here as quick as I could.”
Salyers said a person passing by saw the fire and went into the home.
“One of the neighbors reported it and tried to get her out,” Salyers said. “I don’t know who it was.”
Another neighbor called Salyers after the incident occurred leading him to respond to the scene.
Firefighters from the Jefferson Township and Valley Township fire departments responded to the scene.
Paul Winn of the Jefferson Township Fire Department said those fighting the blaze “have no idea at all,” as to the cause.
“The (Ohio) Fire Marshal is checking all that out,” Winn said.
The Fire Marshal’s Office remained at the scene Thursday morning and is the lead investigator in the fire. Late Thursday afternoon a spokeswoman for the Fire Marshal’s Office told the Times – “Our investigators were called around 9 o’clock this morning and have been on scene and the cause and origin are under investigation. At this time, no determination has been made.”
