PPD investigating suspected homicide

Officers with the Portsmouth Police Department are investigating a suspected homicide that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident resulted in someone having multiple shots as well as the discovery of a dead body.

The suspected homicide occurred in the 1500 block of Summit Street. At about 3:58 a.m. officers received a call of shots fired in the area of Grant and Summit Streets. While officers were checking the area, a male subject that had been shot multiple times, showed up at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

Officers responded to the hospital and attempted to talk to the victim and he did not want to talk to officers. During a continued search of the area, officers observed an open door on an upstairs apartment in the 1500 block of Summit Street. Upon a check of the apartment, officers found a male subject that was deceased from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

The investigation is continuing and it is unknown at this time if the shootings are related and if other persons were involved. Additional information will be made available at a later time.
