The 12th annual Dinner on the Bridge will begin at 6 p.m. June 2 with music and free wine tasting. The wines will be homemade by nearby neighbors. This year’s specialty will be Hibiscus, made from the dried hibiscus flowers. The Bryson Store Band will provide music.
The event is sponsored by Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge Historical Society.
The Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge was built in 1855 and restored in 2004 at a cost of $1 million. It is the oldest, longest, single-span open to traffic in the world. Participants are encouraged to arrive via the East Tygart Road off the AA highway-Ky. Rt. 10 (three miles from U.S. 23), as this gives access to ample parking in the nearby fields. There is limited parking on the Ky. Rt. 7 entrance side of the bridge. It is located 8.5 miles from the Speedway in South Shore. Dinner will be served come rain or shine.
The menu includes juicy, smoky hot chicken legs; fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs; and tender beef brisket. The entrees are accompanied by smoked beans and watermelon salad, and this year is Bourbon Bunt Cake.
Tickets are $35 (partially tax deductible) and are expected go quickly. The event should be sold out again this year. To reserve your spot, tickets must be purchased in advanced via PayPal or, if paying by check, you can mail ticket requests to 240 Rallye Point, South Shore KY 41175. Reservations may also be made on the Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge Facebook page. Checks should be made out to Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge. Email email@example.com or call Bill at 606-923-6066.
Proceeds will be used by the Bennett’s Mill Covered Bridge Historical Society for the continued preservation of the Greenup County covered bridges. Security cameras are expensive, but necessary, and are supplied by Southern Ohio Security.
