Ava McCleese, a 2017 graduating senior and Salutatorian of Clay High School was accepted to the Ohio State University Department of Engineering, where she plans to study Engineering Physics with a concentration in Nuclear Engineering/Energy.
McCleese is the 2017 recipient of the Ohio Lion’s Foundation Scholarship and Portsmouth Lions Club Scholarship. Other college scholarships Ava will be receiving are Flour BWXT STEM scholarship, OAGC, OSU Provost, Honda/GE/OSU Partnership, Charles Medick scholarship, The OSU Alumni Club of Scioto County, CHSAA and Carl E. Brooks scholarships with the Scioto Foundation.
McCleese has maintained a high GPA, taking on rigorous coursework consisting of college prep, AP and college level courses with the CCP program at Shawnee State University, ranked third in her class, excellent ACT scores and earned 43+ college credits, compleating a majority of her general education prerequisites before graduation. Her passion for learning, dedication to her studies, strong moral ethics and her ability to overcome circumstances that she faces daily with having a visual impairment to achieve such academic success are examples of her determination and ability.
