VRCFA After Dark

Staff Report

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Vern Riffe Center for the Arts (VRCFA) is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual After Dark Event will take place from 7-10 p.m. on Thurs., Apr. 13 in the Selby Lobby of the VRCFA.

Twenty-five artist have been selected as part of this year’s event. Their artwork ranges from various media, including painting, clay, ink, glass etching and digital media. All of the artists represent a wide range of backgrounds, from SSU students, staff, faculty and alumni, to teachers, to local artists and retirees.

At this year’s event, there will be six canvases that have been created by Creative Cult, a club established by four SSU alumni, that will be sold off and proceeds will go towards supporting the club’s activities.

“The event continues to grow every year. We had a record number of applicants this year than space available, therefore, we had to make certain selections,” said VRCFA Director, Joe Patti. “Out of the 25 artists this year, 20 of them had never participated in an After Dark Event before.”

This year, prior to the event, the After Dark program expanded its scope and asked local businesses to display some of the artwork that were going to be showcased during the event as a “sneak peak.” Some of the local businesses that participated included Market Street Café, Port City Café and Pub, Sherman Kricker Insurance and the Trinity Business Group. The complete list of all the businesses that participated can be found online at https://vrcfa.com/events/third-vern-riffe-after-dark/.

Free food and music by DJ Cody Mitton will also be available while attendees and participants enjoy the opportunity to speak with the artists and purchase their artwork.
