Shawnee State University is calling for nominations for the 2017 “Friend of Children” Award for the Southern Ohio’s celebration of NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child.
The Friend of the Children Award is given to a person or organization that meets the F.R.I.E.N.D. criteria: Fosters the well-being of children from birth to eight years old, Recognizes the importance in giving back to others and the community, Is a team player and possesses the ability to collaborate, listen and learn for others, Exemplifies commitment in promoting quality early care and education, Noted for their service and leadership and providing program and building support, and Demonstrates vision, inspiration, direction and support.
One award is given for each of the following three categories:
- Organization: recognizes an organization that has impacted the needs, rights and well-being of children through support of an area program(s).
- Practitioner: awards an individual who works directly with children (birth to Grade 3) in full-day child care centers, half-day preschool programs, home providers, public preschools and public school kindergarten-third grade teachers (teacher, teaching assistant, administrator, bus driver, cook or volunteer).
- Advocate (Citizen): recognizes the outstanding contributions towards a program or community by advancing the cause and making a difference in the lives of children and their families (public servants, university faculty, directors, principals and volunteers).
