Operation Christmas Child,(OCC), is swinging into full gear this month as we are collecting school supplies, bars of soap, washcloths and other hygiene supplies for both girls and boys of all ages. In Africa, one box of crayons can cost $8.00 and a family may only earn a few dollars a day. Children have to supply their own supplies or they can’t go to school. Yes, our children must supply their own supplies also, but they are not kept out of attending school if a parent(s) cannot afford them.

School supplies needed are: colored pencils (12Pack), crayons, pencils sharpeners, bic pens (blue, black ink 10 in package), scissors, glue sticks, 12” rulers, calculators, pencil top erasers, & large pink erasers. We already have enough pencils to give each child 5 pencils.

Hygiene products we need are : toothbrushes, toothpaste, bars of soap, washcloths, combs, brushes, band-aids, small hand sanitizer, ponytail holders, barrettes, & small bottles of shampoo, etc.

We are putting together sewing kits for the girls 10-14 group. We have most of our items but what we need is cotton woven fabric, (no knits, please), at least 1 yard in length and no more than 2 yards in length.

The 10-14 boys group we are collecting simple tools such as: screwdrivers,(regular & Philips), pliers, hammers, nails & screws, etc.

We are also collecting matchbox size cars for the boys of all ages.

This will be another year that we fill 300 shoeboxes. Something a lot of people are not aware of are the facts that we pay for each shoebox, the items which fill each shoebox and the $9.00 postage per shoebox to ship it wherever it needs to go. Donations are always graciously accepted and may be brought to the church office in the annex most mornings,(M-F), before 1:00 pm.
