Two men arrested in string of burglaries
PORTSMOUTH- Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said the 911 communication center received a call at about 2:33 p.m., Monday, April 8, from a resident in the 7000 block of Ohio 125, reporting two men were breaking into her house. After being confronted by the caller’s husband the two fled through the rear of the victim’s property in a burgundy Ford Ranger.
SOCF guard shot, killed in training incident
LUCASVILLE- Southern Ohio Correctional Facility’s Employee of the Year has been shot and killed in a training incident.
Courthouse elevator repair may take three weeks
PORTSMOUTH- Anyone who has been to the Scioto County courthouse lately knows one thing. One very urgent thing that makes almost everyone’s life and work more difficult there.
First State Bank to have grand opening April 12
First State Bank’s Portsmouth banking center is now open at 1110 Gay St., Portsmouth, at the intersection of U.S. 23 and U.S. 52. The grand opening celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, April 12. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11 a.m., courtesy of the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Light refreshments will be served and the Portsmouth team will be showcasing the new facility.
Commissioners remark on unity, cosmic majesty of eclipse experience
Thousands of Scioto County residents found themselves outside, using glasses or pinhole cameras or even the crescent shadows cast by tree leaves to view what may be, for some, the last of a lifetime experience: a solar eclipse.

Council to consider acceptance of PPD grants Monday
Portsmouth City Council will be asked at Monday’s meeting to pass two pieces of legislation on an emergency basis. Both involve the acceptance of grant funds for local law enforcement.
