PUNXSUTAWNEY, PA— More than 45,000 people welcomed and roared in satisfaction as Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring on Gobbler’s Knob on Friday.

FRANKFORT—As we find ourselves one-third of the way through the 60-day Regular Session in February, I believe it’s important to provide an update on key legislative developments and share my perspective on a couple of significant bills.

PORTSMOUTH- The Scioto Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Nicole Chandler-Wright Memorial Scholarship, established by David and Debra Nourse Chandler to honor their daughter who lost a battle with cancer when she was 29 years old.

PORTSMOUTH- A local pastor has declared war on hunger and is now asking residents to help him defeat the enemy and ensure that no family is worrying about where their next meal is coming from this winter.

SOUTH WEBSTER- The last few years, the number of area food pantries has dwindled but the need still exists. The 501(c)3 for the South Webster Food Pantry has changed hands rather than leave the area without a food pantry at all.

Scioto County Prosecutor Shane A. Tieman has announced the January term of the Scioto County Grand Jury met on Jan. 26 and returned 14 public indictments. The defendants are charged as follows:

NEIGHBOR COMPLAINT—Reporting party called several times regarding neighbor’s vehicle blocking them in. 5:21 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 31.

WHEELERSBURG— Local Wheelersburg graduate, Miss Paisley French, was crowned Miss Ohio’s Teen last fall. Prior to that, French won Miss Portsmouth’s Teen during her first ever pageant. More recently, she leveraged these wins to travel to The Walt Disney Theatre in Orlando to compete in the Miss America Pageant, where she won First Runner Up Miss America’s Teen after months of preparing for the day.
