The Shawnee State softball team faced off against Lindsey Wilson College again on Saturday, with a chance to take the series from the Blue Raiders. Scoring all of their runs in just two innings, the Bears won 6-3 and took their first conference series of the season.

In the series finale, Cassie Schaefer went four innings allowing two hits and striking out five while only allowing one earned run. Cameryn Davidson pitched again, not allowing a hit and striking out three in her two-thirds innings of work. Emma Wargel threw again in the final two and third innings only allowing a single hit and striking out one.

Emily Allphin hit a three-run home run in the first inning to get the Bears on top early 3-0. Shawnee wasn’t able to manage another run until the seventh inning. Breaking the three-to-three tie, Ashley Fite hit a double into the gap, scoring Lexie Lockwood and in the same inning Allphin finished her great day with a sacrifice fly, scoring Fite. The Bears went on to win 6-3, taking the series 2-1.

  • Emily Allphin went a perfect 3-3 with a three-run home run, providing 4 RBI
  • Ashley Fite 1-3 with a double and an RBI
  • Starting two times in two days, Cassie Schaefer pitched another gem, allowing just two runs over her four innings

With the victory, Head Coach Sam White got the edge over his former school, where he was a part of four championship winning teams. The Bears will travel to Miami-Hamilton on Wednesday, March 15th at 3:30 p.m.
