At the end of this month Wheelersburg High School graduate, Rohit Kataria, will fly to California to compete in his second Jeopardy! Tournament.

In 2018 when Kataria was a junior at Wheelersburg High School he was chosen as one of fifteen students from a national pool of over 10,000 applicants nationally to compete in Season 35 Jeopardy! Teen Tournament. The show aired in 2019, and while Kataria didn’t win the competition, he considered it to be an amazing experience. He was also fortunate enough to have met American game show host and television personality, Alex Trebek, who hosted the show for 37 seasons.

Having always had an interest in academic competition Kataria participated in local quiz bowl competitions from fifth grade through his senior year of high school. During his high school career he became captain of the team and led his team to numerous victories in various academic tournaments. The Wheelersburg team participates as one of fourteen teams in an Academic Competition League coordinated and hosted by Sharee Price of the South Central Ohio Educational Service Center.

During Kataria’s four years on the Wheelersburg team they won the League Championship three times and the ESC Conference Tournament all four years. While he was team captain the team earned the opportunity to compete at the state and national levels. Wheelersburg High School Quiz Bowl Coach, Brian Oakes, who was able to travel to California with Kataria in 2018 commented, “It was an honor to have Rohit on the team all four years. He worked extremely hard at his academics as well as Quiz Bowl. It was an unbelievable experience to sit in the studio audience and watch him perform on Jeopardy!”

“I’m truly honored and ecstatic to get to return to the show. I’ve kept in close contact with my fellow contestants from four years ago, and am looking forward to reconnecting with all of them! Competing on Jeopardy! in high school was an incredible opportunity, and it is again an amazing opportunity to return to the stage for the first-ever High School Reunion Tournament!” stated Kataria. “The Jeopardy! High School Reunion Tournament is set to air at the end of February or beginning of March. The 27 contestants are all from the two Teen Tournaments from Season 35 of Jeopardy!”

Kataria is currently enrolled at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and is in the second semester of his junior year. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy Studies.
