PORTSMOUTH – Portsmouth, Ohio native, senior Alicia Bobst always knew she wanted to attend Shawnee State University when deciding on the college for her.

“I went to a small high school, so I wanted to stay in a smaller classroom setting,” she said.

Involved on campus in many organizations, Bobst has been a leader in organizations like Delta Phi Epsilon and the Shawnee Panhellenic Council while also being a member of SAGA – the Sexuality and Gender Acceptance group, as well as volunteering for both the Women’s & Gender Equity Center and the Student Intercultural Belonging office.

“I was surprised to find that there were so many opportunities for me to become involved on campus,” she said. “Over the years I’ve found where I best fit and can thrive in, so I’ve gone down those paths.”

This year, Bobst has expanded her involved as a Student Alumni Ambassador (SAA). As an SAA, she assists the university’s Development Foundation and Alumni Association throughout the year.

“We help with events and some of their campaigns,” she said. “There’s a lot to do. They host Homecoming, Casino Night, assist with graduation, and the President’s Gala. It’s a unique job to do and connect with others in.”

Bobst graduated with her Occupational Therapy Assistant’s degree from SSU in Spring 2022 and is now pursuing an Individualized Studies degree.

“It’s kind of a ‘build-your-own-major’,” she said. “I really enjoy it because it’s unique and it’s a mixture of health science and anatomy.”

Once graduating with this degree, Bobst is hoping to continue her education by enrolling in the Master of Occupational Therapy program.
