Gunshot hits truck in Scioto County

Authorities are trying to learn who fired a bullet that struck a truck in Scioto County. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon and now it is under investigation.

The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said they responded to a report of a commercial vehicle sustaining gunfire in the area of Ohio 139 at milepost 4 in Scioto County.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered that the vehicle, a tank truck belonging to a local sewage removal company, had one visible bullet hole in the right rear of the tank.

The driver of the vehicle, who sustained no injuries, reported hearing four gun shots at the time of the incident.

OSHP Aviation and Special Response Team responded to the scene to assist in a search for a possible suspect. The surrounding wooded areas and several nearby residences were canvassed which turned up no leads, according to troopers.

Local residents reported hearing no gun shots at the time of the alleged shooting.

All units cleared the scene by early afternoon and Ohio 139 is open to traffic.
