The Scioto County Junior Fair Royalty Contest was held at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Center earlier this week, where the field of eight contestants was narrowed to five.

The top five contestants are Shyanne Zoellner, Melanie Fuhrmann, Kaitlyn Maddox, Kelsey Shope and Jordan Hileman. Other contestants included, Bre Gahm, Mikaylah Belford and Rachael Slone.

Contestants were judged in activities, achievements, on stage presence and interview skills. At the end of the contest, a panel of out-of-county judges chose the queen and first runner-up.

Mary Evans, with the Scioto County Junior Fair Queen Committee, said once the queen and first runner-up were chosen, it was sealed in an envelope and will not be opened until the Monday, Aug. 8, crowning event at 8 p.m. during the Scioto County Fair.

“We had a good bunch of girls and we will have a good group of girls to work with,” Evans said.

Evans said 2015 Scioto County Fair Queen Kathaleen Kuhn and several other past queens and contestants participate in the contest. Other 2015 Scioto County Junior Fair Queen Court Members include Chelsea Rice, Audri Graf, Charli McClay and Rachael Slone.

Evans said the top five contestants will work pre-fair activities and at the fair they will work all of the shows and take part in Cloverbud interviews along a variety of other activities.

“They are very busy during the fair time, they really work hard,” Evans said. “The work does not stop after the fair is over, she (Fair Queen) work’s right up until she turns over her crown.”
