‘Aristocats’ at Portsmouth Elementary

“The Aristocats Kids” comes to the stage of Portsmouth Elementary this weekend, and it’s a zany family-friendly production, performed by the Trojan Express choir.

The Trojan Express Choir is an audition choir at Portsmouth Elementary.

Based on the beloved Disney animated film, and featuring a jazzy, upbeat score, Disney’s “The Aristocats Kids” is a non-stop ride of feline fun, full of exciting twists and turns.

This musical was designed specifically for children’s performing groups, making it a great production for families to watch.

In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Laughs and adventure ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper. Now it’s up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day.

The Trojan Express choir has about 50 students, all of which are in grades 5 and 6, participating in the production this year. The students have been hard at work since February with rehearsals.

“These kids are so talented, they can just pick it up so quickly. They’ve been working really hard and I’m very proud of them,” said director Laurie O’Brien.

The performance will be held in the Elementary School Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $5 at the door for general admission.

“All of the proceeds go right back into the program, they pay for our props, our sets, the costumes, the microphone rentals, it just helps to ensure the continuation of the program for future students as well,” O’Brien said.

The curtain opens on April 29 at 7:30, followed by a performance on April 30 at 2:30 p.m.

“It’s a joy to work with them,” O’Brien said, “I know those who come to see it will enjoy it.”
