Citizens of all ages gathered at South Webster High School on Wednesday, April 20, at the 26th Annual Bloom-Vernon Community Health Fair.

Representatives from Southern Ohio Medical Center, King’s Daughters Medical Center and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital brought their mobile units to provide free testing such as EKG’s, mammograms, blood-pressure testing, and many other services.

In addition to these services, 47 other health related agencies presented information and provided for visitors.

“The health fair is a great thing for our community, throughout the day many community members stopped in. It’s just a way of letting our kids know that having good health is important and will better their lives,” said High School principal Brett Roberts.

The health fair is always free and open to the public, the school district encourages individuals to take advantage of the opportunities that the Health Fair provides, it is always held on the third Wednesday in April.

“We’ve done screenings for all our staff and the community members that come through, I went through myself. It helps our students become aware of their health and their wellness. It also helps those in the community who need these services and may not be able to get out or get them elsewhere, so it’s vital to our area in many ways” said Superintendent Mark Kreischer.

The American Red Cross was also present, and conducted a blood-drive for those willing to donate.

Aside from the various tests and screening provided, medical agencies we’re able to provide information to the students and community members.

“Interim has been involved in this health fair for several years, this year, we’ve given out information on how to indentify stress, and how to manage it. Of course, there are students here, and with their finals, the ACT, and college applications, we felt like this information would really help them, as well as others who visited,” said Interim Healthcare Representative Stacey McWharter.
