Senators defeat Mohawks, 12-3


The Portsmouth West Senators gained another win on the baseball diamond Wednesday evening, as they defeated SOC II foe, the Northwest Mohawks.

West and Northwest were locked in a tight game until the fifth inning, when the Senators scored six runs in the inning to take a large seven-run lead. By the end of the game, West added three more runs in the seventh inning to defeat Northwest 12-3.

The Senators broke away in the latter innings of the game to get an all-important conference win.

Marty Knittel took the mound for West Wednesday evening, completing six innings of work. He was the pitcher of record for the Senators getting the win. He gave up six hits and three runs, all earned, and walked two batters. Knittel also struck out five Northwest batters.

West had four batters with three hits each in the win over Northwest. Cody Wiltshire, L. T. Maynard, David Matney, and Pat Bays all went 3-4 from the plate.

Matney knocked in four runs, leading the team, and scored three runs. Bays had a trio of RBIs, while scoring once. Maynard scored three times and knocked in a pair of runs, while Wiltshire had one RBI and scored once.

Wiltshire also came in to relieve Knittel in the seventh inning, to close the game. He struck out one batter during his inning on the mound.

West will meet Northwest again on Friday at Northwest. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
