David Hall, who recently retired after 27 years at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, has a prayer that has been on his mind much in the last year.
“I just thank God for keeping me safe for 27 years,” Hall said. “Hopefully the day gets back to where law enforcement gets the respect around the country that they deserve. That’s what I pray happens.”
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini threw at party to honor Hall on his retirement, a party that drew throngs of people from law enforcement and the court system in the area to wish Hall well.
“Everybody wants to feel as if they’re wanted, that they’ve made a difference,” Donini said. “Since I’ve been sheriff, when somebody retires I try to actually recognize them and bring everybody together for some last final moments and talk about memories. I think it’s important that people know that they’re needed and wanted and they made a difference.”
Hall said, looking around the meeting room at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office at all the people in attendance, it was an awesome feeling to know people care.
“I have been blessed to work with a lot of local, state and federal agencies and they’ve all been great to work with and there’s a great trust issue that goes with that and integrity,” Hall said. “Integrity is big for me because we have a lot of respect for each other and the trust is that we can call and count on each other to be there and help with cases. I have always operated on, I don’t care who works the cases, as long as it gets solved. Let’s do it and get to it and let’s take care of our victims. Whoever gets it — that’s a plus.”
Hall hasn’t made it to the rocking chair just yet. He has taken a job with a company on the Piketon reservation
“The new job is going great,” Hall said. “I work for a company called WEMS (Wastren), and I’m a security specialist and it has taken a lot of training the last two weeks, but they do so much to make sure you’re safe and that’s important. I like it. It’s a different kind of work. I don’t get up every day and worry about the stresses of the job and whether I’m going to be safe. I’m working with some very talented people. I’m fortunate to be around them.”
