The Waverly Lady Tigers lost to Southeastern Saturday at Waverly High School, 58-43.

“The first two minutes of the game did us in,” Waverly coach John Bonifield said. “We dug ourselves a hole getting down 9-0 and couldn’t recover.”

Southeastern’s Ella Skeens helped lead her team to victory over the Lady Tigers. She scored 23 points, hitting five threes in the game.

Skeens had two other teammates finish in double figures, Audrie Wheeler scored 16 points, while Rachel Collins finished just under Wheeler, with 14 points.

Laken Smith had another big game for Waverly, despite the loss. Smith earned a double-double, scoring 26 points, and pulling down 14 rebounds. She also had four steals against Southeastern.

Brittany Green finished with six points Saturday, good enough for second highest scorer for Waverly. Green also had five rebounds, and a pair of steals.

“Against a talented team like Southeastern, you can’t have defensive lapses and you have to convert on offense when you get quality looks,” Bonifield said.

The Lady Tigers will attempt to rebound from Saturday’s loss, as they host Oak Hill Monday night, and then South Webster on Wednesday evening. Both games are scheduled to tip around 7:30 p.m.
