Northwest BOE adjusts

The Northwest Local School District Board of Education has witnessed change in recent weeks, with members exiting and joining.

Adam Jones was sworn into the Board of Education on Wednesday, during a special meeting to appoint him as the replacement for Ryan McCall. McCall’s seat was left open after he accepted the position of president of Marion Technical College.

According to Board President Keith Crabtree, eight people applied for the seat. They ultimately chose Jones, because he was the only applicant who ran in the recent election. Jones lost his race, coming in with 18.63 percent of the vote.

Jones is currently in-between careers and says he is looking for work in any field. He believes his background will provide passion for the board.

“I will bring passion for the love of our school. I will work with members of the district to do what is best for the kids. I will be present,” Jones said. “I will work diligently and see what we can do to stay the same or a little better.”

Jones says he has no focus or planned goals for the district at this time.

Also at the meeting was Jared Lute, who ran against Jones. He was at the board meeting, proving an invested interest in the district, and will officially take a seat at the first of the year.

Lute is a former Mohawk and teacher, who is a currently an industrial and timber professional.

As an employee of the district, Lute taught eighth grade social studies. He believes that he had a positive impact on the district while he was there and hopes to continue his service for the students.

Also in the last election, Crabtree was chosen to continue his role as a member of the board.

The Northwest Board of Education will meet again on January 11, at 6 p.m. Lute will be sworn in, along with Crabtree, at this meeting.
