SOUTH WEBSTER – The South Webster Jeeps picked up their first win of the season Tuesday evening as they defeated the Green Bobcats by a score of 66-39. The Jeeps had a great all around team effort as 11 different players went on to score in the ballgame.

The first quarter was marked by tough defense on both sides. Green found early success by going inside to Aaron Johnson, while Webster’s Shane Zimmerman struggled from outside the arc. By the end of one, the score was 12-6.

The second quarter had a much more open, free flowing feel as both teams got rolling. Hunter Lewis was active for the Bobcats, while Freshman Shiloah Blevins put in all eight of his points during the first half. He also lead the Jeeps in rebounding with seven. His brother, Alek Blevins was in foul trouble much of the first half, scoring only two points during his short time on the floor for Webster.

The score was 31-21 South Webster at the half.

Band Director Ryan Donini and his Jeep Jazz Band fired up the South Webster faithful with their halftime show. The team came out fired up as well, putting up another 35 points in the second half and limiting the Bobcats to just 18.

Despite being in foul trouble, Alek Blevins came out and scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half, leading the Jeeps in a quick scoring barrage to open up the third quarter. Shane Zimmerman poured in 14 as well, despite his poor shooting throughout much of the night.

Aaron Johnson ended with eight points, and both Andy Chavarria and Hunter Lewis finished with nine for Green. The rest of the Bobcats struggled to find their footing through the game. Bobcat Head Coach Dirk Hollar was disappointed in his team’s performance.

“We just didn’t have it tonight,” explained Coach Hollar. “We didn’t make the extra pass, and we tried to play too much individual basketball. We didn’t play team basketball. That is honestly the worst we’ve looked all season. We came in here after two big games in a row, and this blows my mind. We are still shaking our heads about what happened. They outplayed us, and once we got down we just didn’t have the fight in us.”

“We are going to have a good practice tomorrow,” promised Coach Hollar. “And if not I’ll probably come unglued.”

South Webster Head Coach Ryan Fenton was pleased with the effort of his players, despite not shooting well the first half.

“I thought the effort was good,” said Coach Fenton. “The first half we seemed a bit sluggish but the second half we came out and changed that. Our pressure was good, shot selection was good, and the way we ran the offense was good. That’s why we got to come out and extend our lead.”

“Alek is definitely our energy guy. He works hard on both ends, and I thought a couple of foul calls really weren’t his fault. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. But he provided us with great minutes in the second half and really attacked the basket and defended their best players. Shane is battling a bit of a cold right, he got good shots but he just wasn’t hitting tonight. Those two we treat like seniors.”

South Webster Travels to Minford Friday to play the SOC favorite Minford Falcons. The game starts at 7:30.

“We go in and practice for Minford next. They are big, strong, and skilled. They are probably the best team in the league and for us, we have to continue to apply pressure defensively, work on our rotations and get better on the glass. We are going to go in with our best effort and if they want to beat us they are going to have to take it from us.”

The Green Bobcats host the Symmes Valley Vikings in Franklin Furnace Friday. The game starts at 7:30.
