Valley’s Altman signs with Alderson

Before she steps on the diamond for her final season in Lucasville, Amber Altman has already decided where she will spend the next four years of her softball career.

Altman signed with Alderson Broaddus University, which is located in Philippi West Virginia.

“I visited Alderson in September. After I saw the campus and got to know the coach, it just felt like a great fit for me,” Altman said.

One reason Altman choose Alderson is because of academics.

“I want to major in mass communications and they have a great program,” Altman said. “They also have a recording studio on campus. So it seems like a great place to be.”

Altman is delighted the selection process is over and she can now focus on her senior campaign.

“I’m so excited. It’s like a huge relief. I can’t wait to graduate,” Altman said.

Altman is hoping she can help guide the Valley Indians to a prosperous season while achieving a personal milestone that has eluded her throughout her career.

“I would definitely like to pitch a no hitter,” Altman said. “That’s been a goal of mine for a while.”

The Indian senior won’t just be looking for a no-no during the season, she’ll also be working on her repertoire of pitches before she has to face collegiate hitters.

“I need to work on throwing a little more curve, not just relying on fastballs,” Altman said. “I’ve got to develop a little more diversity in my pitches.”

As her time at Valley concludes, Altman hopes she has taught the younger players what it takes to achieve their goals.

“I definitely would hope they could keep a strong work ethic,” Altman said. “I know those days where you don’t want to do much and you’re really tired, but you have to set goals and push yourself to accomplish them. You always have to give 100 percent, even if it’s for two hours.”

As far as achieving her goals, Altman is grateful to her parents Angel and Michael Altman for their support.

“My parents have definitely sacrificed a lot of time because I’ve played softball year around for the last seven years,” Altman said. “They’ve sacrificed a lot of free time to go and sit at these fields, and I appreciate it a lot.”
