It looked like a casting call for a horror flick. But in reality it was just kids in costumes looking to claim the prizes in the costume contest Saturday at Ghosts in the Attic on Second Street in Portsmouth, a part of Main Street Portsmouth’s Fall-O-Ween celebration.
“We’re having the annual Fall-O-Ween costume contest with first, second and third prize,” Rick Timberlake of Ghosts in the Attic said. “The contest starts at 1 (p.m.) and trick or treat at 1:30 (p.m.) until 3:30 (p.m.). They’re having a touch-a-truck and if the weather clears up they’re doing a movie for families on Market Street this evening.”
Timberlake said it is the third year for the event. Throughout the day, businesses in the historic Boneyfiddle District of Portsmouth invited guests to experience their annual day of events dedicated to the fall season.
“Our goal is to get more people in the Boneyfiddle businesses,” Main Street Portsmouth Director Sarah Surina said. “The Falloween event brings many people into the shops and creates a lot of community pride and interest in that area.”
Surina said the event is also Main Street’s way to continue the practice of giving back to the community members who are looking for something new and interesting to do.
