The Portsmouth Trojans Track Team had three All-Conference and Honorable Mention performances at the 2015 Ohio Valley Championships at Earl Thomas Conley Park in West Portsmouth Tuesday.

Portsmouth finished fourth in the event, led by Daniel Clark who paced the way for the host school, finishing 13th with a time of 18:35 while Ethan Haas crossed the finish line with a time of 18:55, good enough for 15th place. Rounding out the honors for Portsmouth was senior Tyson Trinidad who finished 18th with a time of 19:35.

Caleb Clark (19:58), Aiden Kammler (20:31) and Daniel Jordan (21:43) finished 23rd, 27th and 39th respectively for the Trojans.

“Our course is not easy and times are never fast on it but I am proud of how the kids fought out there,” Trojans head coach Corey Culbertson said. “They showed toughness and determination.”

Seven conference schools participated in the event — Gallia Academy, Rock Hill, Dawson Bryant, Ironton, South Point, Fairland and Portsmouth — which equated to 182 runners.

Culbertson was proud of his team’s accomplishment but also the work of everyone involved making this event a reality.

“I first and foremost must thank everyone who helped make this day possible,” Culbertson said. “From the Portsmouth Athletic Department and boosters to Shawnee State’s men’s and women’s head cross country coach Eric Putnam. They volunteered their time and expertise which allowed for this meet to run smooth. I couldn’t have done it without them.

“I also have to thank the Earl Thomas Conley Park grounds crew who do a fantastic job maintaining the course and setting everything up. Anything I wanted to see, they made happen. The park is beautiful and these guys are the reason.”

Portsmouth will be back in action on October 24 in the District Championships held at Rio Grande.
