PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – For the third consecutive week, the Shawnee State men’s cross country program finds itself in the NAIA Top 25 Poll as the Bears did not move from their No. 16 overall ranking in the latest version of the polls, which came out Wednesday evening.
Over the past week, the men took a limited number of runners to the Mid-South Conference Preview Meet – also known as the Gatorland Run – in Bowling Green, Ky. this past Saturday.
Even without running the vast majority of their top harriers, Shawnee State still managed to place two runners in the top 15 overall and four runners in the top 30 as Bears’ head coach Eric Putnam gave the young guns a chance to shine.
For Shawnee State, Logan Rowe led the way with his time of 28:20.6 to finish in 12th place at the Mid-South Conference Preview, while Austin Divelbiss took home a 15th place finish by running a 28:44.4 to lead the charge for the Bears.
In his first overall race with Shawnee State, Chad McComas planted himself firmly inside the event’s top 25 as the freshman clicked off a time of 29:14.1 to finish in the 21st position. Noah Bullock followed McComas’ efforts by placing in 30th, 45 seconds behind McComas with his 29:59.1.
Marshall Farnsworth and Austin Ridenour would close out the efforts for the Bears, with Farnsworth putting up a time of 30:33.8 to finish 35th and grab the final scoring slot. Ridenour’s time of 34:18.9 would put the freshman in 47th place to finish off the event for the men.
As far as the poll is concerned, Southern Oregon, who was the No. 1 slot in the preseason as well as in the first poll, retained the No. 1 slot for the fourth week running. Lewis-Clark State and Indiana Wesleyan leapfrogged Oklahoma City to grab the No. 2 and the No. 3 slots in the poll, respectively.
Shawnee State will have its biggest weekend to date in the 2015 season as the Bears will participate in the 61st Annual All-Ohio Championships on Friday, Oct. 2 and will turn right around to race in the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, Oct. 3.
