The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) was recently informed they will be receiving an accounting award from Auditor of State Dave Yost. This marks the third year in a row the agency has received the award.

A recent financial audit of OVRDC by the Auditor of State Dave Yost’s office has returned a clean audit report for the period ending Dec. 31, 2014.

“I think this is quite an honor, it speaks a lot about my financial staff,” said John Hemmings, executive director of OVRDC. “I think over all (the award) show’s everyone, we have controls in place to make sure everything has been done correctly.”

According to released information, OVRDC coordinates federal, state and local resources to encourage development in Scioto, Adams, Brown, Clermont, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Vinton counties. OVRDC also works with local communities and organizations to secure Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), US Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA), and Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) funding.

Hemmings stated continually receiving the award should let the public know the agency has sufficient controls in place to manage its money.

“You don’t get these types of awards and you don’t have a clean audit like we do, when you have a lack of controls,” Hemmings said.

The Auditor of State Award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. To receive the award audits on agencies must, file their financial reports with the Auditor of State. The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, among other things.
