Two crashes result in injuries

A Scioto County man has been airlifted to a Columbus hospital following a single vehicle crash. Malcolm R. Montgomery, 63, of Lucasville, was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger southbound on Lapperell Road in Pike County Friday when the Ohio State Highway Patrol said he drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The Portsmouth dispatch center received the report at around 3:54 p.m. and responded to the scene.

Montgomery was transported to Greenfield Adena. He was later flown by Med-Flight to Grant Hospital in Columbus. Montgomery was charged with failure to control and operating a vehicle intoxicated. His injuries are unknown at this time.

Troopers took the opportunity to remind motorists to never drink then drive.

Another crash is also under investigation. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Post in Chillicothe is investigating a two vehicle injury crash on Grassy Fork Road in Pike County. Joshua Hicks, 28 of West Union was operating a 2000 Chrysler Town and Country when it traveled left of center striking a 1995 Chevrolet S-10 driven by David Humphrey, 54 of Peebles.

Hicks was transported to Adena Pike Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Humphrey was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries. Lucinda Hicks, 27 of West Union a passenger in Mr. Hicks’ vehicle at the time of the crash was treated and released for minor injuries at the scene. Ryan Humphrey, 15 of Peebles a passenger in Humphrey’s vehicle at the time of the crash was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital by Air Evac.

Ryan Humphrey condition remains unknown at this time. The crash is currently under investigation.

The Mifflin Township and Pike County EMS units assisted on the scene.
