Local community members had a wide variety of items to choose from at the Scioto County Habitat for Humanity (SCHFH) yard sale held Saturday, Aug. 22.

Nancy Donini, fundraising committee chairperson for SCHFH, said the yard sale went well.

“We are doing well with our yard sale. It hasn’t been overwhelming, but it has been constant, and exciting. We are getting rid of a lot of things, even stuff that we had from a previous yard sale,” Donini said. “We are excited, we are going to be starting our next house in September, and that will be on Stanton Avenue in New Boston, as I have stated before.”

She said SCHFH is looking into possible expansion.

“We are thinking about opening and advancing our Habitat, maybe having other areas in addition to Scioto County, but we don’t know yet,” she said. “We would some day like to have a Restore, but we would have to have an executive director.

“We love Habitat, it has been wonderful. We help our families, and it is a win/win for everybody, because a family gets a house, but then the city, or village, or county has a property that is no longer vacant, and you are now having property taxes,” she said. When you have a brand new house, a lot of the neighbors look at that and they go out and plant flowers on their property, and it kind of spruces up the neighborhood.”

She said their next event will be a volunteer dinner to express their appreciation for those who have contributed time and effort to Habitat.

“We are having our volunteer dinner on Monday, Oct. 5. And it is going to be at the Friends Center,” Donini said. “We will be giving out awards to people that have donated their time and helped us with our last build. We will be starting at 6 p.m., and we always look forward to this as well.”
