The congregation of Living Faith Temple (LFT), 1329 Kinney St., in Portsmouth, will celebrate their 1oth Pastoral Anniversary of Elder Vincent and Lady Maja Kennedy on Sunday, July 12, with two services. Service times are 11 a.m. of which Minister Maxine Malone of Christ Temple Portsmouth will be the guest speaker. Bishop Edward E. Shouse, Sr., Presiding Bishop of Greater Emmanuel International Fellowship, Inc. and Pastor of Temple of Praise Columbus, Ohio is the speaker for the 4 p.m. service.

Kennedy said serving as Pastor of LFT has been a very humbling experience.

“It has been a very humbling experience serving God in this office for the past 10 years, and I believe that there is still a lot of work that needs to be done,” Kennedy said. “I want our church to be more active in the mission and outreach fields, the Bible says in Luke 14:23 that we are to go into the highways and hedges and compel them to come. With all of the negative things going on, not just in our community but around the world, we as the body of Christ need to do our part in not only spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, but also showing the love the Jesus has shown to us, and to all men. This is our commission from God.”

LFT is seeking to establish two other ministries within the local community.

“We are currently in the process of beginning a nursing home and prison ministry. Our youth ministry, which was led by my wife Maja for the past six or or seven years until she handed duties over to a group of ladies continues to grow, with the young people eager to learn about Jesus every Sunday in children’s church,” he said.

Balancing service as a full-time pastor, coupled with a day time vocation and family, presents challenges, Kennedy said.

“The biggest challenge is working a full time job and raising a family at the same time as being a pastor,” he said. “However, the highlight is every time that someone receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior makes it all so worth it.”

Pastor Kennedy and his wife Maja have a daughter, Dasia Kennedy who is a junior at Central State University, and a son Vincent Kennedy, III, who will begin college at Marshall University in the fall of 2015.

Pastor Kennedy said he thoroughly enjoys serving for and with the members of his congregation, and has been truly blessed with a wonderful host of people. He also said he and his wife Maja are very optimistic about the future of LFT, and look forward to how God will use their church in other ways to be a blessing to the community.
