SCHUMAN

PORTSMOUTH — Louis W. Schuman, 88, of Portsmouth died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at his residence. He was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Portsmouth the son of the late Louis A. and Jewell Elizabeth Edwards Schuman. Lou was retired from the Portsmouth Fire Department, a member of the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Knights of Columbus, he was a World War II Army Veteran having served with the 10th Mountain Division.

He was preceded in death by his wife Norma Jean Schuman. Also

preceding him in death was one son Stephen Schuman and three sisters Catherine

Caldwell, Jean Schuman, and Janice Schuman, and one great grandson Michael Taylor.

Surviving are one son Robert (Dolores) Schuman of Portsmouth and one daughter Diane (John) Ward of Columbus, two grandsons, four granddaughters, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Melcher Funeral Home with Dennis Dawes officiating, and an Honor Guard Service by the Portsmouth Fire Department.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Cemetery at Galloway, Ohio with Pastor Richard Jones officiating and Military Graveside Rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home in Portsmouth from 5 p.m.

to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.
