Edgar A. Allen, 89

Today we remember a wonderful man, Edgar Aaron Allen, 89, of Minford, who died Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Minford Retirement Center, Elbrooke Pavilion. Born January 13, 1923 in Otway, he was the son of the late Oscar Lawson and Izora Violet Covert Allen. He was a 1941 graduate of Otway High School, was a retired mechanical engineer for Empire Detroit Steel and taught Senior Electricity at Scioto County Joint Vocational School. A former employee of Bickett Machine, he was a farmer. Edgar was a highly decorated U.S. Army veteran having served in 5 theaters during WWII, including landing on the beaches at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Following the war he was a member of the U.S. Army Naval Reserve and the Sunshine Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby Jean Ball Allen; two sons, Gregory (Jennifer) Allen of Portsmouth, Dane (B’ Jo) Allen of Minford; two daughters, Brenda (Tom) Kallner of Minford, Elaine Allen of Minford; seven grandchildren, Ashlea (Gerald) Green, Zachary (Ann Marie) Allen, Lance (Tiffany) Allen, Aaron (Jodi) Kallner, Natalie (Mike) Limrick, Eric (Stephanie) Miller and Alicia (Chris) Dayton-Newman; ten great grandchildren, Zeb and Juniper Allen, Lucas Allen, Abbie, Ellie and Grant Kallner, Ewan Limrick, Zane and Cali Miller, Ian Newman, and a brother-in-law, Otis Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leslie Ann Allen, and his brothers and sisters Nelson Allen, Edna Moore, Paul Everett Allen, Earl Lawson Allen and Della Mildred Allen. The family would like to thank the staff of Elbrooke Pavilion and SOMC Hospice for their caring.

Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family with Steve Miller, minister, officiating. Friends may call at Erwin-Dodson-Allen Funeral Home in Minford from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday. Military graveside rites will be conducted by James Irwin Post No. 622 American Legion and William A. Baker Post No. 363.
