Candy Cummings, 63

Carmel Jean “Candy” Cummings, 63, of Portsmouth, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at the SOMC Hospice Center, after a long battle with cancer.

Born July 27, 1949, in Piketon, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Maudie Reynolds Jones and graduated from West Portsmouth High School. Candy was a licensed cosmetologist, a licensed insurance agent, and a Licensed Practical Nurse. A Member of the American Nurses Association, she was also a member of the Portsmouth Eagles #4285 and Moose Lodge #762.

Surviving are her husband of 34 years, Jerry Ray Cummings, a son, Jody Miller of Portsmouth, two daughters, Mickey Jones of Portsmouth and Tina Miller (Tony) Veach of New Boston, four stepdaughters, Sandra Howell of Portsmouth, Sharon Swords and Shelly Jackson, both of Logan, and Jerri Cummings of Wheelersburg, 12 grandchildren, Michael, Jeffery, Jessica, Tiffany, Jeramie, Joshua, Toni, Andrew, Tyler, Katelynn, Allyson and Jill. Candy is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by many close friends and acquaintances.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2012, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Randy Schintzius, minister, officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Sciotoville from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the SOMC Hospice.

Candy’s family would like to extend a personal “thank you” to the SOMC Hospice for their care and compassion.
