John Koenig, 72

John Martin Koenig, 72 of Otway, passed away in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at the SOMC, Portsmouth.

He was born on April 8, 1940, in Otway, to the late Joe Jr. and Violet Koenig.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Virginia Anne Brown Koenig, three sons: Martin “Bo” (Teri) Koenig, Todd Koenig, Clayton (Deve) Koenig, two daughters: Lisa (Mark) Stump, and Traci (Matt) Powell, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Janet Rose Brooks, Joe-Anne Shiveley, James (Bob) Koenig, Georgia “Sis” Althauf, Mary Lee Daniels, Dottie Matheny, Joe Koenig, and Judy Tackett.

Martin was a retired Engineer from the N&W and Norfolk and Southern Railroad with 39 years of service and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Martin was a member of the Hills Chapel Christian Union Church in Otway.

He loved all his family, friends, and his special Grand Dog “Annie.” He also enjoyed farming, working in his garden and his garage.

A celebration of life will be 1 p.m.. Sunday at Botkin Funeral Home in Otway with Pastor Jonathan King officiating. Burial will follow in the Koenig Cemetery. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hills Chapel Christian Union Church.
