Arthur Crabtree, 94

Arthur Milburn Crabtree, 94, of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Hempstead Manor, after a long illness.

Arthur was born on June 20, 1918, in Portsmouth, to Leonard and Lula Crabtree. His mother died when he was a year old and his father when he was very young. He lived with his grandmother, Phoebe Woten Crabtree, whom he loved very much. He went to live with his aunt, Emma Crabtree, and uncle, Charles Horton. He was raised with their two sons, Ray and Ned Horton.

Arthur served in the Air Force, where is suffered permanent ear damage. He started the AMC Radio Clinic on the eastside of Portsmouth. He married Edna Call Perry on April 5, 1950. She joined him in the business, which also sold and serviced TV’s. They ran it until their retirement. They built a new home in West Portsmouth with their own hands, taking several years to finish. They loved their life with their different dogs. It was a great neighborhood where they had many friends. Edna died in 2001.

He is survived by his two step-daughters, Glenna Green and Delores McCuddin of Sioux City, Iowa; nieces, Connie (Bob) Pratt, Rosenea (Denver) Raike, Fawn (Allen) Egerton, and many other nieces and nephews; grandchildren; great-grands; and great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandmother; aunt and uncle; son-in-laws; cousins, Ned and Ray Horton; and wife, Edna.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at F. C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth. Interment will be in Owl Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Daehlers.
