Laura Lou Hemminger, age 50, of Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 8, 2012 at SOMC Hospice, surrounded by her friends and family. She was born to Edwin and Gayle (Hazelton) Hemminger on June 17, 1961 in Burbank, CA. For 15 years Laura worked as a Ticket Agent and Manager for the Greyhound Bus Stations in Portsmouth, Ashland, and Columbus, and subsequently worked for 10 years with Clint’s ProSteam. She was a longtime member of the Christ United Methodist Church and was always willing to volunteer her time, especially in the church nursery. She also volunteered at “The Mighty Oaks and Little Peanuts”, a therapeutic riding academy for special needs children. Laura loved nature, animals, and rock collecting. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, and more than anything else, loved her children and spending time with her family.

Laura is survived by her mother, Gayle Hemminger; three children, Jason Hemminger of Sciotoville, Crystal Hemminger of Portsmouth, and Sharleen Hemminger of Sciotoville; two brothers, Edwin Hemminger, III of Portsmouth, Randy Hemminger of New Bern, NC; four sisters, Lynn Weber of Elyria, OH, Linda Gartin of New Bern, NC, Brenda (Chuck) Gartin of New Bern, NC, Leslie Hunter of New Bern, NC; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Hemminger, Jr., sister-in-law Susan Johnson Hemminger, and brother-in-law William R. Gartin, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church in Sciotoville with Rev. Richard North officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. Friends may call on Monday from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
