Russell Clay, 91 of Morganton, N.C., died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at his residence. Born Oct. 7, 1920, in Greenup Co. Ky., he was a son of the late Russell Clay and Nannie Florence Barnhardt Clay.

Mr. Clay was a World War II U.S. Navy Pearl Harbor veteran and was a member of the V.F.W. in Morganton.

He was a member of the Rainhill Wesleyan Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Jerald Curtis Clay; brothers, John Henry, Edsel and Billy Ray Clay; also four siblings.

Surviving are his wife, Merle L. Gillum Clay of Morganton; a son, Roger Stephen Clay and wife, Loralee of Minot, N.D.; step-children, Linda Johnson and husband, Don of Morganton, Dale Thompson and Sheron Tassis, both of Michigan; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchilddren; brothers, Willard Clay of Portsmouth, Ohio, and Ronald Clay of California; sisters, Katherine Holcomb of Portsmouth, Ohio, Dorothy Oney of Las Vegas, Nev., and Beverly Reeder of South Portsmouth, Ky.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in South Shore Ky., with Rev. Jack Williams, officiating. Interment will be in Brick Union Cemetery, Greenup, Ky.

The family will receive friends at the Roberson Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012, and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Military Graveside services by the James L. Flannery American Legion Post #276 of South Shore, Ky.
