Maxine Shumate, age 70, of Powell, Ohio, passed away after a long illness on Monday, May 7, 2012, at The Ohio State University Medical Center. Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, she was a graduate of Portsmouth High School. Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Shumate, and her son, Kevin Shumate. She is survived by her children, Starr Shumate of Powell and Keith (Kim) Shumate of Dublin, Ohio; her grandchildren: Kiyonna Shumate, Monroe “Q” Dowling, Sheridan Shumate, Kyle Shumate and Kaleb Shumate; great-grandson, Antonio Coleman Jr.; sister Gail (Larry) Green of Portsmouth; brother, Roger Melvin of Durham, N.C.; sister-in-law Annie Ruth Shumate of Sandusky, Ohio; and their families; and cousin, Sherry Stovall of Columbus, Ohio.
