Alberta E. Lane, 85

Alberta Edna “Grammy” Lane, 85, of Portsmouth, passed away Sunday Feb. 24, 2013 at Heartland of Portsmouth. She was born Jan. 5, 1928, in Firebrick, Ky.; a daughter of the late Fred and Garnet Brown Bentley. Alberta was the head cashier at the former Townhouse Restaurant for 28 years and the former K & M Restaurant for 5 years. She had a daycare facility in her home and was the director of the daycare at Portsmouth Baptist Church for 10 years.

She was preceded in death in 1959 by her husband, Willard Earl Lane Jr., whom she married in Greenup, Ky., on June 21, 1947. She is survived by two sons; Gary P. (Linda) Lane of Baton Rouge, LA and Philip E. (Susan Tidrick) Lane of Portsmouth, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Alberta was also preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela Timberlake Sparks; four brothers, Bob, Danny and Elmer Bentley and Otis Horsley; and three sisters; Althia Ramsey, Shirley Allard and Freda Kouns. She is also survived by her Central Baptist Church family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the RALPH F. SCOTT FUNERAL HOME in Portsmouth where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in South Webster Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Central Baptist Church in Portsmouth.
