Maxine Womack, 87

Maxine Marilyn Womack, 87, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born May 6, 1925, to the late Russell Cardell and Genevieve Vivian Cornute Williams.

Maxine was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church, and she was a Portsmouth High School graduate. She retired after 38 years as a sales associate from the former Martings Department Store, where she worked on the third floor.

Maxine was preceded in death Feb. 7, 2010, by her husband, Clemmy Lee Womack, whom she married Dec. 20, 1941, in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Surviving are her sister, Hortense Y. Hairston of Portsmouth; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families. She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Carlene V. Jeffries and Marcelene Valeria Williams; and one brother; Elverson K. Williams.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Allen Chapel AME Church with Elder Ralph L. Clay officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to services.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
