Harry Singree, 86

Harry J. Singree passed into eternal rest on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013. He was born in McConnelsville, Ohio on July 12, 1926, to Wilfred J. Singree and Cora Blanche Spencer Singree. He graduated from M&M High School in 1943, enlisted in the Army in December 1944 and was stationed in Japan.

He was discharged from the Army in November 1946 having achieved the rank of Corporal and earning the Asiatic Theatre Ribbon, Army Occupation Ribbon Japan, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He made Canton, Ohio his home and worked for Republic Steel (LTV) for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1988. He was married to Beatrice Hensley Singree whose death preceded his in 1991.

He loved sports and participated in hunting, fishing, golf and bowling. He built his “dream” cottage at Tappan Lake in 1968 and after retirement, lived there full time until 2005 when he moved to Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio to be closer to his “best friend”, Margaret Brooks. Margaret preceded him in death in 2006. Mourning his death are three daughters, Janet (Bob) Hern of Columbus, Ohio, Norma (Dave) Hill of Cincinnati, Ohio and Donna (Mike) Bishop of North Canton, Ohio.; grandson, Ty Angle and great granddaughter, Kya Angle of Columbus, Ohio. Harry is also survived by Margaret’s family, Kate (Gene) Lewis of McDermott, Ohio, Kathy (Ed) Lynch of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Jeremy (Randi) Loper and children of Dublin, Ohio.

In addition he is survived by sister, Mary Johnson of Waterford, Ohio, and sister-in-law, Marianne Singree of Beverly, Ohio., sister-in-law, Avious Griffith of Flat Gap, Ky., and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was also preceded in death by brother and sister-in-law, Clyde and Jean Singree of Dover, Ohio., brother, George Singree of Beverly, Ohio.; sister, Edith Sands of McConneisville, Ohio; brother-in-law, George Johnson of Waterford, Ohio and brother-in-law, Russell Griffith of Flat Gap, Ky.

A Celebration of Harry’s life with the Rev. Thomas Douce officiating will be held at the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. Calling hours will be for one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers the family request that you do something nice for a loved one.
