While Christmas is still more than two months off, the Jaycees are busy preparing for the 74th Annual Jaycee’s Christmas Parade.

The parade will be Thursday, Nov. 15, at 6 p.m., lining up at the Portsmouth High School parking lot at 5 p.m.; traveling west on Gallia Street, crossing Chillicothe Street, continuing west on Fifth Street before disbanding at Valley Wholesale Foods.

“Santa Claus will again be on his big float, and he greets the children in front of (True Value) Toytown,” Lisa Carver, executive director of the Portsmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, said. “He usually sees 300 to 400 kids there.”

Carver said two or three bands have already committed to the parade.

“We welcome Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports groups, and clubs and organizations of all kinds,” Carver said.

Carver said anyone wishing to participate in the Christmas Parade, can call the Chamber office at 740-353-7647, or they can email Leroy Hackworth at the Jaycees, at chaz417@msn.com.

Now who is the intelligent person that came up with the route for this parade? Do you not realize you are blocking all north and south travel coming into the city? And at 6pm I might add!!! Why not Gallia to Chili turning north on Chili and disbanding in Tracy Park? It's good enough for the River Days parade and still allows north and south passage via the downtown bypass/truck route.
