The Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Scioto County will have its 2010 Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Friends Center, 1202 18th St. Associated organizations will have booths set up so visitors will be able to see different volunteer opportunities or to see the impact a station is already having in the community.
Volunteers, stations and preschools are invited to enter a Decorated Pumpkin Contest. The pumpkin can be painted, carved or decorated with stickers or other accessories. Pumpkins for the contest should be submitted between 9 to 10 a.m., and the winner will be announced at 2 p.m. You also will have a change to vote for your favorite pumpkin and take one home by way of a Chinese auction.

Preservation summit planned
The 11th annual Ohio Farmland Preservation Summit will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 18, at the Nationwide and Ohio Farm Bureau 4-H Center on the Ohio State University campus in Columbus. Citizens, farmers, landowners, local officials, land trusts and other interested parties are invited to attend. Registration for the event closes Nov. 5.
“Setting the Agenda: The Next Decade of Farmland Preservation in Ohio” is the theme for the 2010 summit. Speakers will present on a variety of topics, including the national and state perspectives on farmland preservation. The annual summit is the largest statewide farmland preservation gathering in the nation.
