The Portsmouth Fire Department will conduct fire hydrant testing throughout all areas of Portsmouth and Sciotoville beginning Wednesday, Oct. 13. Testing will continue every Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the remainder of October.
Court of Appeals convenes Oct. 14
The Fourth District Court of Appeals will convene at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Pike County Common Pleas Courtroom in Waverly to consider cases from Jackson and Pike counties. Cases will be argued before Presiding Judge Matthew W. McFarland of Portsmouth, Administrative Judge Roger L. Kline of Circleville and Judge Peter B. Abele of Athens.
Judge William J. Harsha of Chillicothe is a judge with the Fourth Appellate District.
The Court of Appeals directly reviews all cases heard or tried in lower courts in which a decision is being appealed. These cases may have been tried in Common Pleas, Probate, Juvenile, Municipal or County courts, and may be either civil or criminal cases.

The Southern Ohio Jazz Society will receive 15 percent of sales with presentation of a flyer on Community Fun Night from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Bob Evans Restaurant, 1314 Gay St. Flyers may be picked up at the Welcome Center, 342 Second St., or Sherman-Kricker Insurance, 810 Chillicothe St.
