Voter registration deadline is Monday

Monday is the deadline for registering to vote in Scioto County in the Nov. 2 election. Voters can register at the Scioto County Board of Elections, located in the Scioto County Courthouse, at 602 Seventh St., Room 105, in Portsmouth. The Board of Elections office will remain open until 9 p.m. Monday to accept voter registration forms.

Sheep Dairy Symposium is set

The Ohio Sheep Milk and Cheese Initiative will be hosing a Sheep Dairy Symposium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 6 at Ohio State University’s Agricultural Technical Institute, 1328 Dover Road, Wooster. Topics will include dairy sheep genetics, milk production and nutrition, enterprise budgets and financing options, market potential and Ohio cheese makers, grazing practices and nutritional requirements.

Reservation deadline will be Oct. 20. The cost of the symposium will be $25 per individual. Registrations can be sent to Small Farm Institute, 28850 SR 621, Fresno, OH 43824. Make checks payable to Small Farm Institute. For more information, call (740) 545-6349.

Library to host OCC speaker

The Portsmouth Public Library will be hosting a speaker from the Ohio Consumers Council at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, in the Copley Meeting Room of the Main Library, 1220 Gallia St.

Engineer announces county road work

Craig J. Opperman, P.E., Scioto County engineer, announced the work schedule for Oct. 4 through 8 for his office.

Box Culvert Replacement: Big Pete Road, County Road 268, and Franklin Hollow Road, Township Road 270, in Green Township will be closed Monday, Oct. 4, through Friday, Oct. 8, both day and night. Big Pete Road will be closed at Franklin Hollow, 0.98 mile from Gallia Pike and 3.30 miles from Ohio 522. Franklin Hollow Road will be closed at the intersection of Big Pete Road. County crews will be replacing the concrete box culvert on Big Pete Road.
