According to Capt. Steve Goins, an 85-year old woman told police she was asleep on the couch when she woke up and found a shadowy figure in the room with her. She told police she believed the figure entered her home through the window, but Goins said there were no signs of entry. The woman did not initially report anything missing, but later called back after finding money missing from an envelope.
The victim told police the name of a possible suspect. That suspect was arrested Wednesday on unrelated charges but has not been charged in the home invasion.
Police have sent the envelope to the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation to check for fingerprints.
“We’re looking into her claims,” Goins said. “Buckeye Towers management puts video cameras up on the front lobby and that helps a lot. Since this has happened, we’re going to be doing walkthroughs (of Buckeye Towers) every night.”
Goins reminds people to make sure all doors and windows are locked; keep jewelry, medication and other valuables locked up; keep your serial numbers on file and never buzz somebody through the door if you don’t know who they are.
The case remains under investigation by New Boston Police.
