According to a spokesman of AEP in Columbus, about 1,700 utility customers in Scioto County experienced power outages on Friday. Power was expected to be fully restored by early evening Friday. AEP said the outage was because of high winds.
Trick or Treat is Oct. 28
Trick or Treat for Scioto County, which includes New Boston and Wheelersburg, has been set for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
Mosquito spraying on Sept. 27-29
The Washington Township trustees will conduct mosquito spraying from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Anyone with respiratory problems should consider closing their windows and shutting off window unit air conditioners until the fog has dissipated.
Piketon fire ruled accidental
A fire at a single-family home about 1 p.m. Friday in Piketon was ruled accidental by the State Fire Marshal’s office. According to a press release from the Fire Marshal’s office, the fire was caused by “careless disposal of smoking materials,” and began in a bucket of discarded cigarette butts on the front porch.
According to the release, a police cruiser was parked across the home at the time of the fire and its dashboard camera captured the fire on video. The police officer reported the fire.
No one was injured in the fire and the Fire Marshal’s office reported the fire caused about $20,000 damage to the home.
